Aaron Sims on Stan Winston: Late Sunday night,
June 15, we heard that special FX master Stan Winston
died from complications due to cancer. He will be
remembered always, and continue to be an inspiration
to filmmakers and artists alike. Stan was a visionary
entrepreneur as well as an amazing businessman. He
understood the direction special effects was taking
before almost anyone, and responded to it by developing
several successful offshoots. He also gave me a start
in the digital world by having faith in my abilities
to rethink my approach to character design from paper
and pen to 3d and Photoshop - now standards in the
trade. I shall always be grateful to him for that.
He was a friend and a mentor.
Aaron's work is featured in THE
MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, out in theatres August 1. Says director Rob Cohen, "Working with Aaron Sims on Mummy 3 was an incredible experience. His ability to adapt and realize fantastic ideas into very physical creatures is extraordinary."
